Even though many casinos have opened up (or opening soon) in U.S., most casinos in Canada are still closed since March. Saying that, there are strong signs that Manitoba Casinos will re-open in early July and considering Ontario is already in stage 2, there is possibility of Ontario casinos re-opening soon.

Some of the safety measures casinos need to prepare before opening are:

  • Enhanced screening & queuing measures at entrance including temperature screening
  • Extended Guest registration process
  • Social distancing protocols while entering casino and while in the casino
  • Mandatory use of face masks
  • Multiple hand sanitizer stations at entrance and throughout the casino
  • Touch-less payment & food service options
  • Glass shields between slots and tables
  • Limited table games
  • No smoking within the casino facility and designated managed smoking areas outside.
  • Dedicated cleaning staff

Implementing above by just manual processes and policies will be hard. Having multiple siloed technology solutions will bring it’s own set of challenges. This is where casino owners & management should consider BI & Integrated Data analytics based solution for above enterprise transformation.

Like any other enterprise transformation, change will be the hardest part in envisioning and implementing this Business Intelligence Transformation. Some option on how technology can help casinos prepare for this reopening :

Inventory tracking dashboard for personal protective equipment like face masks, gloves, face shields, hand sanitizers etc.

Connect your inventory database to visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI and review the inventory on daily basis including trend analysis. Also add 40-50% markup for these equipment in your year 1 financial forecast.

Integrate new screening systems with casino’s existing data warehouse & BI systems.

This is really important for the customer’s audit trail within the facility. Integration with existing dashboards and reports will give management a holistic view which will help them take informed decisions like further opening the Casino, increasing\decreasing number of table games etc.

Introduce new sensors and enable real-time heat maps to spot possible vulnerable spots

This will help with stability of facility operations. Including proximity sensors with glass shields, touch sensors for often used spots can help the cleaning staff focus and reduce overall cleaning effort.

Consolidated Analytics dashboard

Add these new data points to existing BI Solution to understand how the casino is functioning and provide proof of compliance with social distancing measures or restrictions set by governments.

Communicate about the implemented safety measures

Even if all the required safety measures are put in a Casino, the customer will only come if he or she feel safe & comfortable to visit it after reopening. Marketing campaigns should be run in advance to communicate & market the enforced safety measures.

The floor staff might also require additional training to support customers and make them feel safe after reopening. Many of the above technology solutions will help communicating implemented measures with factual data and will certainly help in this transformation for Casinos.
